Exploring Nature Through Photography: A Creative Co-Curricular Experience

The students in the Nature Photography Art Co-Curricular got out and about in Term 1, exploring and appreciating nature while finding inspiration for photography and art projects. A big focus of the club was to recognise the importance and delicacy of nature and to understand the impacts of human behaviour on our environment.

Students enjoyed adventuring at Spittal Pond, Devonshire Bay, and Grape Bay, where they collected plastic trash, driftwood, sea glass, and other items. This hands-on experience not only deepened their appreciation for nature but also encouraged them to take action in preserving it.

A highlight of the club was welcoming well-known local artist and photographer Meredith Andrews as a guest presenter. Meredith shared her passion for collecting plastic waste from beaches and transforming it into stunning photography and sculptures. The students were amazed by the works she showcased and felt inspired to create their own pieces. They also crafted ornaments using the treasures they had collected.

Another highlight was learning about photography techniques and applying them to capture stunning images. Some students even entered their photos into the Reg Grundy competition. A special congratulations to Joey, who received a highly commended recommendation!

This co-curricular experience was a wonderful opportunity for students to connect with nature, develop their artistic skills, and engage in environmental stewardship.
