Somersfield Brownies Take Action for Our Coastline
Somersfield Academy Brownies joined forces with the First Devonshire/First Smiths Brownies and Rainbows to spend their Sunday afternoon collecting debris and pollutants along the shoreline near Bailey’s Bay.
Before heading out, the group took part in an interactive discussion about pollutants and how they affect Bermuda’s marine environment. The children then spread out along the rocky coastline and collected more than 600 plastic fragments, rope, fishing line, and more. All findings were carefully recorded and sent to Keep Bermuda Beautiful (KBB) to support their ongoing environmental monitoring.
We are grateful to Somersfield teacher and Brown Owl Ashley Phipps, who helped make this experience both meaningful and memorable for the girls. Their commitment to conservation reflects Somersfield’s values and our dedication to inspiring socially conscious, independent thinkers.
This cleanup marks the beginning of a year-long focus on environmental stewardship, with more projects planned in the months ahead.
