Aldon Campbell Awarded Third Place in Earth Hour Essay Contest

April 13, 2012 — Winning students of an Earth Hour Essay Contest were feted at a prize giving at the Youth Library, after 261 wrote on the theme of 'Five Ways that I Keep my Bermuda Green'. The prize giving was held by Greenrock and sponsors Belco. This year's contest got more than double the responses of last year.

In the 15 to 18 category, first place went to Raymond Bean, Jr, of the Berkley Institute; second was Warwick Academy's Justin Ferreira, and Kahlid Y. Muhammad of CedarBridge Academy took third place.

For the 12 to 14-year-olds, Amelia Oatley of Warwick Academy came in first, Blair Smyth of Mount Saint Agnes Academy took second, the third was Somersfield Academy's Aldon Campbell. Honourable Mention went to William Porter of Whitney Institute Middle School, and Cassy McPhee from Mount Saint Agnes Academy.

For the category of nine to 11, Nicholas Siese of Warwick Academy came in first; Caroline Amaral of Mount Saint Agnes Academy took second; third saw a tie between Warwick Academy's Abigail Jones and Somerset Primary's Eanjah Armstrong, and Honourable Mentions were awarded to Zane Curtis-Thomas of Somerset Primary, and Jahmiko Marshall of Harrington Sound Primary.
