Somersfield Academy Crowned National Badminton Champions

Somersfield Academy has emerged as a powerhouse in Bermuda's badminton scene, securing national champion titles in four out of five major tournaments and leagues hosted throughout the year. Somersfield’s success is a testament to the strength of its programme, which is spearheaded by Bermuda Junior National Coach, Bermuda Ladies #1 player, and Somersfield’s Director of Activities, Emma Moran-Lee.

Throughout the 2024-2025 season, Somersfield Academy hosted and participated in five key badminton competitions. It showcased remarkable depth and talent, claiming national titles in four categories, an extraordinary achievement that reflects the dedication of both coaches and athletes.

Senior School Badminton Coed League National Champions

In its inaugural season, the Senior School Coed League, modeled after the Small Island Games format, featured a high-level, mixed-gender team competition. Somersfield Academy’s #1 Team, comprising Dezirae Darrell, Rose Paulos, Paige Lindo, Matthew Troake, and Max Wallace, delivered a flawless performance, remaining undefeated the entire season to clinch the national title.

Middle School Excellence: Under 13 Boys & Girls Tournaments

Somersfield Academy also triumphed at the Middle School level, where students competed in singles and doubles matches through round-robin and knockout stages:

  • Under 13 Boys

    • Singles National Champion: JitHom Liew

    • Runner-Up: James Bigley

    • Doubles National Champions: JitHom Liew & James Bigley

  • Under 13 Girls

    • Singles National Champion: Emma Tothong

    • Runner-Up: Kate Pursell

    • 3rd Place: Aniah Tucker

    • Doubles National Champions: Kate Pursell & Aniah Tucker

    • 3rd Place: Emma Tothong & Anna Green

Over 13 Girls BSSF Tournament

The Academy’s dominance extended to the Over 13 Girls division:

  • Singles National Champion: Sienna Harper

  • 3rd Place: Leilani Carpol

  • Doubles Runners-Up: Sienna Harper & Leilani Carpol
