Diving into Adventure: M2 Students Take on 'Kids On The Reef'

Our M2 students had an unforgettable time with Kids On The Reef. This wasn’t your usual school trip – it was a hands-on, fins-on, two-day adventure in marine conservation and free-diving, thanks to Somersfield Academy’s partnership with the Bermuda Zoological Society and the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum, and Zoo. Led by Dr. Alex Amat, the students were fully immersed in learning about marine life and how to protect it.

The day kicked off with a briefing about marine ecosystems and essential free-diving techniques. Safety first, they got to grips with stretching and breathing exercises before heading out. With snorkels on, they splashed into the shallow waters, swimming and spotting local sea creatures.

The real excitement came when they attempted free-diving in deeper waters, plunging down 6 metres to the ocean floor. It was a thrilling challenge, pushing them to use their newly learned skills while gaining a whole new respect for the ocean.

By the end of the day, the students weren’t just buzzing from their ocean adventures – they left with a deeper understanding of marine conservation and a passion to protect our oceans.
