Somersfield M5 Students Showcase Personal Projects
March 1, 2023
Somersfield Academy will be showcasing their M5 Personal Projects at Somersfield Academy Gymnasium on Thursday [March 2] from 6.00pm to 8.00pm featuring their ideas through inquiry, action, and reflection.
A spokesperson said, “With our school’s vision and values in mind, we are showcasing our student’s ideas on a global level and have linked each of the student projects to the 2022 Sustainable Development Goals which can be viewed on our M5 Personal Project Exhibit Map. Our goal is to live up to our promise to explore the student’s unique potential and to positively impact local and global communities.
“The Personal Project is a key component of the IB Middle Years Programme and all students in M5 [Grade 10 / Year 11] are required to participate.
“The aim of the Personal Project is to challenge each student to develop a project based on a strong personal interest and to frame it within a global context. From there, students create a meaningful goal, conduct a significant body of research, and execute the completion of their project.
“Once completed, students write a detailed, 15-page report that asks them to identify their learning goal as well as their product goal. Students must also identify the various approaches to learning skills they have applied throughout the completion of their project.”
“As an IB school for over fifteen years, Somersfield’s Personal Project is internationally recognized,” says Somersfield Academy Head of Secondary, Charlie Judd, “and each year our students’ results are externally moderated by the IB to ensure the highest quality of learning.
MYP Personal Project Coordinator Anne-Laure Bazin said, “The engagement our students demonstrate when showcasing their projects is impressive. The process culminates with the Personal Project Showcase, scheduled for March 2nd in the Somersfield Academy gymnasium. We encourage anyone interested in project-based, student-centred learning to pay us a visit from 6pm—8pm. We promise you’ll leave feeling inspired!”
