Somersfield Academy Holds Peace Day

September 21, 2018 — Somersfield Academy held their annual Peace Day celebration this morning [Sept 21], with messages of peace and a moment of reflection offered by the M5 Prefects.

A spokesperson said, “Somersfield Academy’s annual Peace Day celebrations started this morning at 9.00am with messages of peace and a moment of reflection from the M5 Prefects. Somersfield Academy staff and students aged 3-16 and faculty enjoyed a solo rendition of John Lennon’s “Imagine” by M5 Prefect Lily Crofts.

“The school also participated in a time capsule ceremony. Primary student Zoe Mir, with the support of her close friend Grace Lightowler, put forth a proposal to place a time capsule on school property to be opened on the school’s 50th anniversary. They presented the idea to the leadership team as well as their peers, and received an overwhelming positive response.

“The time capsule was placed this morning during the celebration in the center of Somersfield’s Legacy Walkway with the center piece, a mosaic Somersfield Star as the marker. Somersfield graduate Morgan Kempe was responsible for the design and creation of the time capsule marker.

“Somersfield recognizes that our beliefs and actions are global despite borders, differences and boundaries. Students at Somersfield continue to lead the way as peacemakers in Bermuda.”
