Read-a-thon event brings in more than $14,000

April 15, 2010 — Here at Somersfield Academy, we excitedly celebrated reading by having a Read-a-thon between March 8 and March 21.

A Read-a-thon is simply a competition to see which class could read for the most amount of minutes. The winning class in each age group received $150 to spend on whatever the class desired.

The students that participated in the Read-a-thon could choose to ask their friends or family to donate money to our highly sophisticated library so we could purchase more books. This year we received the most money ever!

We are very grateful that all together our many willing sponsors donated over $14,000! Our motto this year (Run into Reading) was very much appreciated by the students who participated in the Lunch Run, because it allowed them to acquire more minutes according to how long they ran. Sadly, the Read-a-thon is now over, but we are definitely, desperately, awaiting next year's Read-a -thon!
