Nurturing Success: Secondary Class Parents to Guide Students in their IB Journey
At the PTA general meeting on Wednesday, 4 October, a promising initiative was unveiled – the introduction of Secondary Class Parents. The jump from Primary to Secondary education is a significant milestone in a student’s educational journey and we want to ensure there are a group of parent ambassadors to help guide the way for families entering the IB Middle Years Programme or Diploma Programme.
As in Primary, Class Parents play a critical role in supporting educators, students and families in a range of areas.
Here are some of the key responsibilities for a Secondary Class Parent:
Communication
Creating and managing an optional chat group of parents in your respective class, typically done using Whatsapp.
Sharing key information with parents and responding to questions or directing parents to the appropriate staff member.
Touching base with Homeroom Advisors as needed to share concerns and learn about upcoming news and activities.
Logistics
1. Assisting Homeroom Advisors with a range of small-scale initiatives. For example:
Advisory breakfasts
House competitions
Read-A-Thon
Field trips
Summer Reading
International Day
Coordinating transportation
2. Contributing to the success of specific year-level initiatives:
M1 Endeavour Programme
M2 Kids on the Reef Expedition
M3 Community Project
M4 Peer Mentoring / Listening
M5 Personal Project, Service Week, Moving Up Ceremony
DP Creativity, Activity and Service Program; DP2 Graduation
PTA Support
Assisting the PTA Executive with a range of initiatives throughout the year. For example, one of the goals for 23-24 if for each advisory homeroom to contribute a treasure basket as part of the Spring Fair fundraising efforts.
If you are eager to get involved and make a positive impact within our school community, please do not hesitate to reach out to the PTA Executive (somersfieldpta@somersfield.bm) by 13 October. Our objective is to announce the Secondary Class Parents before the upcoming October break, setting the stage for an even more engaging and supportive academic year at Somersfield.
