Academy Gets a New Name

September 17, 2002 — The Montessori International Academy has changed its name to Somersfield Academy in line with the growth of the school.

Principal Margaret Hallett said the name-change had been in response to the new school location on Middle Road in Devonshire, and the new Middle Years programme.

She said the school had identified the need to adopt a new name and logo, which was more fully reflective of its new facilities at the former National Sports Field, and curriculum.

"The new name embraces all the age groups we now serve at the school and helps distinguish our Montessori programme from others on the Island," said Mrs. Hallett.

"We informed school parents of the name-change in August and have received a very favourable response from them. It is a welcome change, especially for those with children in the Middle Years programme and for parents whose children will enter it over the next few years."

The headteacher said the school now offered schooling up to the middle three year, but from next year would offer middle four.

She added: "Our method and smaller class sizes offers students more individual attention, raising expectations for their personal success.

"High standards have to be met and we expect a strong commitment from both our students and parents to ensure this success."
