Investing in Excellence: Somersfield Academy Triumphs in KPMG Challenge

At Somersfield Academy, we believe in empowering our students with real-world skills that extend beyond the classroom, as exemplified by our students participating in the KPMG Investment Challenge, a thrilling six-month virtual investment competition among middle and high schoolers across the island.

Virtual Ventures, Real Results

In this dynamic endeavor, our three groups - the Wealthy Wizards, Profit Pioneers, and Private Investors - have been given the responsibility of managing a virtual portfolio valued at $100,000. Their objective is to skillfully navigate the intricacies of simulated trading, emulating the ebbs and flows of the genuine stock market. Under the guidance of their teacher mentor, Chantal Garnett (Secondary Mathematics teacher), they engage in weekly meetings. Additionally, they have the valuable opportunity to interact with Parent mentor Mr. Kowalski , and KPMG mentors Jache' Butler and Shaheed Abdul. Eager to immerse themselves in the realms of finance, our students approach this challenge with enthusiasm and a strategic mindset.

The KPMG Investment Challenge, initiated by KPMG in Bermuda in 2005, reflects the firm's commitment to education and youth development. Through this initiative, students not only gain practical insights into financial markets but also receive mentorship from industry professionals, enhancing their understanding of the intricate world of investments.

Rewarding Excellence

Real cash prizes await the triumphant teams, with $10,000, $6,000, and $4,000 earmarked for the first, second, and third-placed teams, respectively. These funds will be rewarded to winning schools, fuelling a variety of educational initiatives that promise to enrich the learning experience for all.
